Volunteering with Friends of Lake Quannapowitt
2/25/2025
FOLQ is a 100% volunteer organization and is always looking for new people who would be interested in supporting clean up, conservation, and beautification efforts around the lake. Consider some of the ways you might lend a hand at Lake Quannapowitt! Most of our volunteer options are family and kid-friendly.
One of the Easiest and Most Rewarding Ways to Get Involved
One of the easiest ways to get involved is through our work around the lakeshore to remove invasive plants and support the native plants already growing there. Starting every spring and continuing through the fall, a group of volunteers affectionately dubbed “The Weed Team” convenes every two weeks to work on cutting and digging out invasive plants from the lakeshore.
This is a fantastic way to quickly get involved, meet other lake enthusiasts, spend time outdoors, make a direct impact on the health of the lake environment, and see what Friends of Lake Quannapowitt is all about! No experience necessary. The only requirements are the ability to perform physical activities like cutting, digging, crouching, kneeling, etc.
The work is probably a good fit for kids 10 and up. BUT we love having families with young kids come to enjoy the lake and help out even in small ways, so we welcome families with kids of all ages – even if it means you’re just there for 20 minutes checking out the plants! Sign up here.
Here are some of the other ways volunteers can get involved:
- Lake Clean-Ups
- Water Quality Monitoring
- Goose Counts
- Event Planning
- Mailings
- Fundraising
- Policy and Planning
- Communications and Writing
