DESCRIPTION:🌿🌱 Interested in helping out? Fill out our volunteer form and an FOLQ board member will contact you! \nThe FOLQ Weed Team is a group of volunteers who want to spend some time outdoors at the lake and help to make a difference! The schedule continues every 2 weeks all summer long. These are usually 2-hour work sessions\, but people stay for as long or short as they can\, and you’re welcome to sign up for any that you’d like to do! No previous experience is necessary\, but enjoying hands-on gardening is important. \nOverview of the Work: \n\n\nPulling\, cutting\, and digging out invasive species along the shoreline to help the native plant species thrive\nPlants include bittersweet (a vine)\, bindweed (a vine)\, purple loosestrife (a flower)\, multiflora rose (a flower)\, and others\nBring your own tools (any of the following: garden or work gloves\, shears/scissors\, clippers\, garden shovel with a pointed tip\, hand trowel\, hand fork)\nRain or shine (unless it’s really bad rain\, or thunder/lightning…)\nFamily-friendly: The work is probably a good fit for kids 10 and up. BUT we love having families with young kids come to enjoy the lake and help out even in small ways\, so we welcome families with kids of all ages – even if it means you’re just there for 20 minutes checking out the plants! 🙂\n\nInterested in coming to a weed team session? Email mail@folq.org to let us know – we can offer your spot to someone on the wait list!\nFOLQ is thrilled to partner with MassWildlife to host a “Learn to Fish” event for ages 5 and up. This free\, family friendly fishing class at Lake Quannapowitt from 5:30 – 7:30 PM will occur before the beginning of that night’s Movie by the Lake. \nAll Ages Welcome\nThis is NOT exclusively a kid’s program. It is a program for people of all ages who want to learn how to fish. Children 15 or younger must be accompanied by an adult. \nDetails\n🐟 July 17th\, 5:30 – 7:30 PM\n🐟 Ages 5 years and older\n🐟  Lower Common\, Lake Quannapowitt\n🐟  Pre-registration Required\n🐟  Cost: Free! \nWhat to Expect\nHave you ever wanted to learn how to fish? Now’s your chance! Let the MassWildlife Angler Education Program be your guide. We’ll have equipment on hand for use\, as well as terminal tackle\, and live bait. You’ll learn the basics\, from casting out\, to baiting up\, and the best part – you’ll be able to fish. So come try your hand at this great pastime\, guaranteed to catch some fun! \nREGISTRATION LIMIT: 50 PEOPLE – REGISTRATION WILL CLOSE WHEN LIMIT HAS BEEN REACHED. \nRegister is closed.\nGood to know: If you’re fishing at Lake Quannapowitt\, FOLQ and the Town of Wakefield have installed fishing line recycling canisters around the lake. Please dispose of any fishing line\, hooks\, and bobbers in the green cane-shaped canisters located in 6 places. Details here.
