Help Limit Lake Development

10/18/2020

Hello Friends,

Great News! The Special Meeting that is necessary to set a hearing date in time to pass the articles to Town Meeting is scheduled tonight Wednesday at 7pm. It would be great to have folks on Zoom at that meeting. The link is below.

I am not sure if there is public participation but we will be ready. Thanks to all who sent in emails and letters in support of hearing the Articles. After tonight we will know more about our next steps.

The link tonight is: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82408963652?pwd=LzdnLzFPRlZHZDRaaENoQWljZzVxQT09

Or got to Wakefield Planning Board, find tonight’s meeting and join from there.

Many thanks to all who helped us in many, many ways to get this scheduled.

To: FOLQ Members and Supporters:

We are asking that you to send an email to the Planning Board, urging them to quickly schedule a hearing that is a necessary prerequisite to place our two zoning articles limiting development on the November Town Meeting Warrant.

The email must be sent in the next two days.

At the Town Council meeting on Thursday we read a message in support our articles and the hearing of those articles by Planning. At the end, Town Council Tom Mullen said there was nothing that prevented Planning from considering this in time for Town Meeting.

It is critical that the Planning Board know that citizens want a chance to have a say in limiting what happens on their lakeshore. This board alone holds the key to good democratic process on a matter important to the whole town. They must make a decision in the next several days to be able to hold the hearing and then report the articles to Town Meeting.

To support the inclusion of FOLQ’s zoning articles on the Town Meeting warrant, please send an email today to the Planning Board at the following address:

planningboard@wakefield.ma.us

We suggest below a possible wording of such an email. But of course people may use their own wording.

To the Chair and Members of the Planning Board.

I am (We are) respectfully asking that your Board consider a special meeting in order to hear the zoning change articles submitted by the Friends of Lake Quannapowitt and recently referred to you by the Town Council.

People of Wakefield need to have a serious conversation about what form development takes on shore of Lake Quannapowitt. That conversation needs to happen before development commences. We thank you for ensuring these articles are included in November’s Town Meeting.

Sincerely,

(Name)
